Students dropouts

What are the main causes for the dropouts and what could help to prevent it?

In this day, we see many students who are working in Publix or MacDonald’s and others small stores without a high school diploma. Although they make a good amount of money, they are missing all the opportunities to make a better future. The main reasons for high school drop outs are lack of parents’ engagement, student’s indifference and poor schools system.
If parents are engaged early in the child’s education career the child is more likely to be successful in school. The parents’ interest and investment in their child’s academic accomplishments shows the child that education is important. Therefore the child will increase having good academic performance. If parents do not hold high aspirations for their child’s education attainment, their child will not see the purpose of staying or doing well in school. The parents must require for the child’s routine to attend school every day. The parents should communicate with the school regarding the child’s attendance. It is easier to train them when they are young, than to fix a bad habit when they get older.
Students have the most important job, responsibility for their own education. The students who are bored in school should talk to the counselor and ask them how they can get their education in a different way. Some people might like to learn by doing things such as arts or nature or wood work. When the students hang out with disinterested people they don’t care about missing classes. Since they miss their classes they are behind and fail, so they get overwhelmed and give up. These circumstances can be avoided by good communication among everyone involved.
When the child’s not prepared for high school he/she cannot see the purpose of education. The blame is on the student’s part for the enormous dropout rate. The students are not willing to work hard enough to be successful. Many of their parents try to convince them to go to school, but they hang out with the wrong crowd, so that affects their chances for their own future. Many states have different rules or system in their school, but students are still dropping out of school. If there is a responsible person to watch out for the students who don’t have the adult, in his/her life, then most likely they will not be behind in school.
The lack of parents’ engagement, student’s indifference and poor schools system contribute to the dropout rate in the U.S. If we don’t show the child the value of education early in their lives, it becomes harder to accept a new standard later. As parents they are supposed to guide them in a path that will give them a better chance in life. Some students are saying that they hate school because they get bored in classes. If the school makes more fun learning experiences, then most likely the child can make a connection to learn. If we all want to make a change then we have to work together: the parents, the school, and the students. The hard work will make a big change for our nation.

Sweet December

Oh Sweet December, in the winter of rest do you come...
Fall in to sleep...only the Sun.

Still and quiet, crispened by clouds...

No flowers or leaves, not very loud.
No birds or squirrels, away have they gone.
No hustle or bustle, alone I am one.
My soul settles down, my thoughts no longer run.
Stillness and quiet, solitude has come.
Oh sweet December, I feel your sweet rest.
This is the month, of time most blessed!
Nature is quieted and entered her nest.
God of Heaven has manifested His best.
Somehow so sweet, is December's sweet death...
Living in time, you see your own breath!
Taken back and a cross, to a faraway land...
Oh sweet December you take me to somewhere so grand!
Into life by death, through the scars of His hands...
Oh sweet December I remember why so still do you stand...
In honor of Calvary’s King who's death healed our land!

Home at last

April 15, 2012

When I had to move from my last home, I felt sad and at the same time I was hoping that I would have a better situation than I was living in. My past home was nice, but it was becoming difficult for my foster mother and me to get along. She had never had children before and I felt that we did not understand each other. I was grateful for everything she had done for me, but we were at a point where she was not happy with me and I was unable to make things right. That was my first home in this country so it meant a lot to me to have a family.
When I heard about the possibility of moving with a new family, I was nervous and hopeful that things would be better. It was not long after meeting with them, I learned that they had experience with teenage girls and the challenges we bring. They also have an understanding of Asian culture and language which not only helps our relationship at home, but helps me develop as a young Asian woman living in this country.
I am thankful of my experience with my first family and will never forget them and what they've done for me, but now I finally feel like I am home with a family that understands me and my needs.  I am very happy to have this opportunity and look forward to contributing to the family in a positive way.

Brother and Sister

The moment of our life

When we arrived to Miami airport, my brother and I had no idea where we were going, but the guy who helped the handicap at the airport, was the one who showed us the direction to go downstairs to meet our parents. When we saw them it was very emotional. At that moment I couldn't say a word because I was so happy.

I'm not sure what my brother was thinking, but I felt scared or nervous because I realized I was no longer with my family and in my country. Then without saying another word, I gave them a big hug and cried over their shoulders. It was an amazing feeling and a moment that I’ll never forget.
